Kawasaki has lifted the lid on its 2012 KX450F, which includes the world’s first use of launch control on a production motocross machine.
Activated by the push of a handlebar-mounted button, the launch control system, similar to that on the factory Kawasaki racers, activates a separate engine map which retards ignition timing, allowing tyres to gain grip in low-traction situations.
Once the rider shifts into third gear, the system is automatically disengaged, switching back to the normal engine map – which can also be set to standard, soft or hard depending on track conditions.
The 2012 KX450F also now has adjustable footpegs and handlebars, a slimmer frame (4mm), new minimalist bodywork and a flatter tank-seat line.
Other features include a new Uni-Trak rear suspension, a front Petal brake disc, a narrower front tyre, and a revised transmission.
The new model will be available in Australia in the second half of 2011, with price still to be announced. Contact your local Kawasaki dealer for more information.
