2012 Honda CRF450R and CRF250R
Honda America has released first details of the latest instalment of the marque's CRF450R and CRF250R motocrossersAs yet there's no official word on the models here in Australia, but Honda America has gone public with first details of the 2012-spec CRF450R and CRF250R motocrossers.
According to Honda America's website, the new CRF450R sports a number of revisions and improvements all aimed at raising the performance bar that little bit higher, with the prime focus being the bike's suspension. The 2012-spec bike is equipped with a new KYB rear shock linkage, while the 48mm KYB fork now has new outer tubes. The springs and suspension settings have been revised both front and rear, while the travel at the back has also been fine-tuned.
All up, Honda says the rear shock now delivers a softer start to its stroke and a firmer finish, delivering a better ride over smaller bumps while still soaking up the worst of the big hits without bottoming out. The new fork tubes are said to be stiffer, affording better feedback and tracking in heavier going, and Honda says the revised springs and settings deliver even more precise steering.
Longer and wider footpegs provide better grip and more comfort, while the new machine is shod with premium Dunlop MX51 tyres - in the US, at least. Other minor changes like a new chain roller and new front axle collars round out the deal.
The CRF450R is powered by Honda's Unicam single-cylinder engine - a 449cc, four-valve, liquid-cooled unit fed by battery-less electronic fuel injection - which is shoe-horned into an aluminium frame. Fully fuelled and ready to rock, Honda says the CRF450R weighs in at a svelte 108kg.
The suspension on the 2012-spec CRF250R has undergone the same treatment as its bigger stablemate, while the 250's Unicam engine also features a new cylinder head, camshaft and 46mm throttle body, all aimed at further boosting the quarter-litre rocket's performance. Honda says the CRF250R has a wet weight of 103kg.
The 2012 tacke will be available in Australia sometime in the last quarter of 2011, with pricing still to be announced.
