Some 826 examples of pre-1986 road bikes and dirt bikes and thousands of riders and spectators enjoyed this year's Honda Broadford Bike Bonanza, a celebration of older motorcycles held at Victoria's Broadford circuit over April's Easter weekend.
Now in its fourth year, the event continues to go from strength to strength, giving punters the chance to shine up their bikes and go for a friendly gallop with like-minded enthusiasts on the Victorian State Motorcycle Complex's road race, motocross, speedway, trials, dirt track or enduro circuits.
There were plenty of stars to spot throughout the affair, of both the two-wheeled and two-legged varieties. Nine-time World Speedway Champion Ivan Mauger took to the track aboard Jack Young's 1951 championship-winning Mitchell JAP machine, and internationally renowned motorcycle journalist Alan Cathcart put a number of rare machines through their paces.
Mauger also attended the Saturday night's Gala dinner, as did Isle of Man TT winner Charlie Williams and Honda motocross international Jeff Leisk. Of particular note was an incredible assortment of Indian motorcycles, which had been assembled to celebrated 111 years since the birth of the American marque.
Event Organiser, Motorcycling Australia's Peter Drakeford, said he was thrilled with the turnout, which has grown significantly since its inception in 2009. "The level of enthusiasm shown by all involved was really gratifying," he said. "We had so many positive comments and with a large proportion of the entries new to the event it bodes well for the future," he added.
Motorcycling Australia's CEO, David White, was also full of praise. "The Bonanza is a remarkable event, bringing riders and spectators together and bringing a brilliant array of bikes out from under their covers and onto the track," he said.
