Motorcycles have always played an important role at the annual Goodwood Revival, and the 2012 event (September 14-16) will be no exception.
The Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy race is already shaping up to be a hard fought battle with some quality rider pairings, all on highly competitive 1950s machinery such as BSA, MV Agusta, Matchless, Norton, Gilera, BMW and Velocette. As in previous years, the trophy will be a two-part, two-rider challenge, with aggregate timing deciding the final result.
Australia’s 1987 world 500 GP champion Wayne Gardner is again expected to compete, alongside his countrymen Cameron Donald and Andrew Pitt.
Each owner-rider will be paired up with a professional racer, and both will ride in each race, changing over in the pits around half distance. The Le Mans-style running start will also be a highlight.
Away from the Goodwood road circuit, there will also be action on the dedicated Revival scrambler course. More details will follow on the scrambler program.
