Kawasaki has revealed the technical issue which forced it to request the return of all 2011 ZX-10R stock in America, and one which has forced back an on-sale date in Australia.
The company discovered that when some examples of the ZX-10R were operated at high rpm under unique riding conditions -- such as operating on a race track -- the intake valve springs could surge.
Kawasaki was concerned that this would cause one or more intake valves to seat improperly, resulting in poor engine performance.
Having examined the very small number of machines which exhibited this surge phenomenon, Kawasaki’s engineers have designed and fully tested a countermeasure, which involves replacing the camshaft, valve springs and spring retainers.
There is still no word on when the ZX-10R will go on sale in Australia.
