Yamaha’s retro XJR1300 muscle bike will continue in the company’s local line-up for 2011, unchanged but now $700 cheaper at $13,999.
The XJR1300’s wet-sump engine exudes old school brawn: a 1251cc air-cooled four-cylinder powerplant that puts out over 100Nm of torque at just 6000rpm.
There’s a wide-ratio five-speed gearbox, a four-into-one exhaust system, fuel-injection, a 43mm fork, Ohlins piggback shock absorber, double cradle tubular steel frame, three-spoke alloy wheels and dual 298mm front discs.
Additional features include a plush seat, an immobiliser, dual LED tail lights, clear flasher lenses and oval mirrors.
Initially launched in Australia back in 1999, the XJR1300's heritage in fact stretches all the way back to 1984 - via the XJR1200, FJ1200 and FJ1100. The XJR1300 is styled after the Japanese superbikes of the late 1970s and early 1980s but -- thankfully -- has all the benefits of modern technology and construction techniques.
Its production run has so far seen it receive comprehensive revisions in 2004 and 2007, the latter marking the introduction of electronic fuel injection and a catalytic converter.
