The upcoming Tokyo Motorcycle Show, due to be held from March 25-27, has been cancelled, a decision which hasn’t come as a huge surprise as Japan struggles to cope with the massive disaster wrought by the recent magnitude 9.0 earthquake.
The event is listed as a cancellation rather than ‘postponement’, which means the 38th instalment of the motorcycle showpiece is unlikely to be held until 2012, or maybe 2013 at the latest.
The Tokyo Motorcycle Show not only unveils the latest production models, but also a clutch of concept bikes – some of which occasionally make it into full-scale manufacture.
One bike which took the great leap from concept to production is Suzuki’s B-King, which was first shown at the 2001 Tokyo Motorcycle Show – many opined for the first and last time.
But the seed managed to germinate, and the B-King went on sale in 2008, powered by a modified version of the Hayabusa engine.
