2011 Suzuki RMX450Z

Priced from under $12k, the enduro scalpel from Suzuki presents plenty of race-tested equipment, including a thumping 449cc single-cylinder engine

The new 2011 Suzuki RMX450Z enduro bike has landed in Australia, giving riders a new scalpel with which to carve up fast single tracks or flowing fire trails. The new model takes advantage of the fuel-injected four-stroke engine used in the RM-Z450 motocrosser and is aimed at riders who want to want to tackle the rough stuff at warp speed.

Pricing for the new Suzuki RMX450Z starts at $11,990, and is offered with the one colour scheme: champion yellow and black with new decals.

Build to withstand the rigours of hard and fast offroad riding, the 2011 Suzuki RMX450Z isn't without a few creature comforts, such as an electric starter and a small instrumentation unit that features two modes:

  • Sports: Trip meter, timer, average speed.
  • Normal: Trip meter, current speed, time of day.

Power for the new RMX450Z is courtesy of the RM-Z450 'crosser engine, which is a fuel-injected 449cc engine that delivers "exceptional power and torque" according to Suzuki. The single-cylinder power unit is liquid cooled, features dual overhead camshafts, four-valves and makes use of Suzuki's electronic fuel injection (EFI) system.

The engine's power is transferred to the rear wheel via chain drive and a five-speed gearbox. The cog swapper features wide ratios which are intended to make the most of the single-cylinder's power characteristics.

Built around a race-bred aluminium alloy frame that employs cast and extruded sections in what Suzuki calls a "a slim, lightweight, rigid and tough package", the updated 2011 RMX450Z also gets a motocross-developed seat and a low profile aluminium fuel tank to ensure a favourable riding position.

The RMX450Z comes with Renthal tapered bars and an 18-inch rear wheel, designed to allow owners to fit larger tyres with more robust sidewalls for puncture resistance.

The electric starter and basic lights are powered by a small battery that finds charge from a large magneto-generator.

Priced from $11,990, the RMX450Z is available now.
