The Australian team to compete in the 2011 FIM Speedway World Cup (SWC) has been pencilled in, anchored by world championship regulars Jason Crump and Chris Holder.
The pair will also be joined by two-time world under 21 champion Darcy Ward, as well as Davey Watt, Rory Schlein and Troy Batchelor.
The six riders will be eager to break Australia’s SWC drought, which dates back to 2002 when Crump and Leigh Adams guided the team to the gold medal over Denmark.
Australia has been crowned SWC champion four times, with back-to-back triumphs in 2001-2002 accompanied by victories in 1999 and 1976 when the quartet of Phil Crump, Billy Sanders, Phil Herne and John Boulger prevailed.
The Australian team will face European powerhouses Denmark and Sweden, along with Germany in its semi-final in Vojens, Denmark on July 9.
The winner will advance to the final to be held in Gorzow, Poland, alongside the other semi-final victor, which will come out of England, reigning champion Poland, Russia or the Czech Republic.
The second and third placed teams from each group will meet in a race-off to be held on July 14, with the top two qualifying for the final on July 16.
Speedway fans will be able to watch every moment of the SWC, including the final, live on SPEED TV. Dates and times are as follows, but remember to check your local guides:
