Determined to keep pace with its major motocross rivals, Honda has announced its 2011 model CRF450R has been given quite the workover, with new suspension, an improved steering damper and improvements to the fuel injection system.
Priced at $12,190 not including on-road costs, Honda says it is confident the adjustments to the new 2011 CRF450R will ensure the bikes "remain at the head of their class for another year".
The CRF450R, the first Honda motocross bike to be fitted with fuel injection, now has a new throttle body and new ECU programming for what the company claims is crisper throttle control and even easier starting. There is also a redesigned fuel pump.
The Pro-Link rear suspension now has a new linkage to assist with sharper “handling and tracking”, as well as a larger shock absorber. The front suspension has also been revised to marry up to the changes at the other end.
Honda has also taken its electronic steering damper and given it more life with a bigger 24mm piston for what is claimed to be “less distortion over braking bumps” with the improved damping qualities.
To conform to new FIM standards, the CRF450R has a revised exhaust system, and the bike also happens to be the motorcycle of choice for two-time AMA Supercross champion Chad Reed for the 2011 season.
The 2011 Honda CRF250R is also in the shops now, priced from $11,290 not including on-roads.
