The on-track schedule for the 2011 IVECO Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix at Phillip Island from October 14-16 has been locked in, and will feature support races for the Superbike, Prostock 1000 and Historic classes.
The Superbike and Prostock 1000 (formerly Superstock 1000) competitors will join together for four eight-lap races, while the Historic class will take to the 4.445km grand prix circuit three times over the weekend.
The seven support races is down on last year’s 10, with Supersport losing out. But there’s a good reason for that because for the first time since 2008, there will be an extra session for all international classes -- 125cc, Moto2 and MotoGP -- on the Friday.
This means Aussie hero Casey Stoner will have an extra practice session to fine-tune his factory Honda before shooting for a fifth straight Island victory on the Sunday.
“We are really excited about bringing quality entertainment to Phillip Island for the fans, both on and off the track this year,” said Andrew Westacott, the Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Grand Prix Corporation. “The Australian Superbikes and Prostock 1000 are always a strong crowd pleaser. Together with more international sessions and the Aussie Historics, they complete a fantastic line-up of events.”
Both support classes will also take to the track on Sunday morning prior to the world championship races.
Entry is now open for the support categories, and closes on August 19.
