2011 Australasian Safari ceremonial start
It was the calm before the storm – the traditional non-combative kick-off for the Safari ahead of today's opening prologue in GeraldtonThousands of motorsport enthusiasts gathered in the afternoon sun at Hillarys Marina in Perth on September 22 to get a closer look at the Australasian Safari vehicles in pristine condition before the real business of racing begins with the prologue in Geraldton this afternoon.
The prologue will determine the starting positions for leg one on September 24, which will take the riders and drivers – all 83 of them -- from Geraldton to Mount Magnet.
After Mount Magnet, there will be overnight stops in Laverton (September 26-27), Leonora (September 28-29) before finishing in Kalgoorlie on September 30.
