2011 Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200: $17,990

Due to go on sale this month, the streetfighter will be four grand cheaper than its direct Ducati competitor

Just a couple of months after its public debut at the EICMA show in Milan, the all-new Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200 is all set to go on sale in Australia for $17,990.

Developing 130hp (95kW) at 8700rpm and an impressive 115Nm of torque at 7200rpm, the new big-bore streetfighter certainly won’t be a shrinking violet when it comes to traffic light showdowns.

It’ll also benefit from a ride-by-wire throttle with three different engine maps, allowing riders to switch between full power and low power to suit changing conditions.

ABS and traction control are not available as options, but that's expected to change for the 2010 model year.

Like the smaller Dorsoduro 750, Aprilia has chosen a steel trellis frame, and the suspension consists of a 43mm upside-down Sachs fork and piggyback Sachs shock absorber. Both ends are fully adjustable.

The 1200 has Brembo stoppers, and weight is 223kg.

Aprilia is pitching the Dorsoduro 1200 squarely up against the Ducati Hypermotard 1100 EVO, which retails for $20,990.

And it might take a year or two, but expect a souped-up version of the Dorsoduro 1200 to eventually make its way Down Under, following in the footsteps of the Dorsoduro 750, which is now available in a ‘Factory’ spec at a $1500 premium over the standard tackle.

The Dorsoduro 1200 will be availabale in black or white. Contact your local Aprilia dealer for more information.
