2010 Victorian Pink Ribbon Ride

Organisers expect around 1500 bikers to join a fundraising ride to aid breast cancer research

Taking place on Sunday October 24, the Pink Ribbon ride is expected to attract around 1500 riders, most of whom will leave from around 15 different locations around Victoria, meeting up at Point Cook for an afternoon of festivities.

The Driver Education Centres of Australia (DECA) have announced their role as major sponsor of the 2010 Victorian Pink Ribbon Ride, which is intended to increase awareness and raise funds for breast cancer research and victim support.

Organised by the Point Cook Motorcycle Club, which has been integral in organising other fundraising rides (such as the CFA fire relief ride, the prostate cancer ride et al), it is hoped that more than $30,000 will be raised for the Cancer Council of Victoria.

Marcel Gomperts, the President of the Point Cook Motorcycle Club, said "Every rider pays $20 to enter and it all goes to the Cancer Council. We'll also raise money through donations, a raffle and an auction.

"lt's great to have DECA involved in the event as we believe it is important to continue to promote further rider training which leads to improvements in road skills and safety."

How will DECA support the event? As well as financial assistance, DECA branches at Newborough, Shepparton and Carrum Downs will be designated 'ride start points' and DECA employees take up roles as  Ride Leaders. Furthermore, rider training courses will feature as raffle prizes during the event.

"DECA is extremely enthusiastic about the event and being able to support breast cancer research in such a practical way," said DECA's CEO, Bruce McDonald.

"The Point Cook Motorcycle Club is based quite close to our own headquarters in Altona North and we feel it is important to be involved in local community events. As we play such a significant role in motorcycling in Australia, we believe DECA has a naturalfit with this event and the opportunity to raise funds for such an important cause," said McDonald.
