The annual MRA Toy Run is on again this weekend in Victoria (December 12), an event run to increase support and awareness of the Salvation Army Christmas Appeal.
Every year thousands of motorcyclists and scooterists meet at various points around the state (see the list below), then converge at the Docklands precinct around 11.00am, trying to out do one another with outlandish decorations on their rides, their clothes and on their helmets.
Not only a great way to socialise with other two and three-wheeled motorists, the MRA ToyRun involves some pleasant riding routes and of course all the proceeds go to a great cause, the Salvos.
Though the day is centred on the motorcyclists and their delivery of toys for the needy, there's also plenty of family and community activities. As well as the thousands of bikes that will be on show, two Victoria Police Bands will be cranking up the tunes, plus there will be artists, choirs, stalls and even stunt rider extraordinaire Lukey Luke will be there to fire up his Triumph for burnouts, stoppies and wheelstands.
MRA Victoria president Kerry Walton said that the event was a great way to help kids in need over the festive season. "In my day job I do a lot of professional Santa engagements, I just love doing it for the kids. The Toy Run this year will be great for families everywhere to not only give to those in need but to join us in a great day out."
