Kawasaki's 2010 model Z1000 has been officially released, with the big news that it will feature an aluminium chassis for the first time.
The new Z1000 is a major mechanical revamp of the previous model, sharing very few components with the '09 model.
"Development of the 2010 Z1000 started from scratch, with the specific goals of creating a distinctive visual impact and superior on-road performance. The end result is essentially a custom-made super streetfighter," says Kawasaki.
Things like a lower seat will increase its appeal across a broader cross section of bikers and along with a new horizontally mounted, full adjustable rear shock which is joined by fully adjustable 41mm inverted front forks.
The 2010 Kawasaki Z1000 also gets a mild update to the angular design, complete with five-spoke wheels and a belly fairing piece to hide the exhaust headers.
According to Kawasaki's PR team, the Z1000 exhibits a "unique blend of Japanese art and technology" that "takes a dramatic leap forward with the distinct look of an apex predator."
It should be lighter than its predecessor and also much faster, thanks a torque-laden engine.
Indeed, the new 1043cc powerplant could be another reason for current owners to trade up.
Kawasaki has built the new litre-class engine from scratch, whose torque will eclipse the current output of 99Nm. The previous model's 953cc engine has been replaced with a 1043cc unit, which comes from a 77 x 56mm bore and stroke.
The compression ratio is 11.8:1 and fuel is delivered to the cylinders via 38mm Keihin throttle bodies, and Kawasaki has crafted a new exhaust system.
It also gets a new cold-air intake that delivers a "dramatic howl" that "raises hairs on the back of its rider's neck" according to Kawasaki.
Expect close to 110Nm of torque and more than 130hp. This - on top of a lighter kerb weight and uprated suspension - should make it a streetfighter to be reckoned with.
The major changes to the new model are as follows:
- All-New Aluminum Chassis
- All-New 1043cc Engine
- All-New Horizontal Rear Suspension
- Sharp "Predatory" Styling
- Light & Quick Handling
- Lower Seat Height than Previous Z1000 Models
