With the 2010 Australasian Super X Championship kicking off on October 16 in Newcastle, the competitors are starting to make some noise, with riders such as Jay Marmont and Chad Reed talking up their chances.
The highest profile motorcycle series in Australasia, with several international riders competing with the locals, the seven round series makes its way to across the Tasman to Auckland and Dunedin, while taking in Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, Launceston and Brisbane.
One of Australia's most recognised motocross champions, Chad Reed is expected to reveal his new bike this week ahead of the opening Newcastle round.
"It's been a tough year, and although it's not ideal to be racing at this point I would not miss the chance to be able to race in front of a home crowd with my family, friends and fans in the stands," said Reed.
"This will be a really special time for me, I can't wait to compete in front of a Novacastrian crowd again."
Not tied to any motorcycle brand after leaving Kawasaki, Reed has been tight-lipped on what he'll be fielding through the Australasian Super X. Will it be KTM? Could it be Honda? Time will tell.
Jay Marmont however will definitely be riding a Yamaha YZ540F, and will lead Yammies' charge in the championship, after having put in a solid ride representing Australia at the Motocross of Nations in the US.
"I always look forward to racing supercross. The night time events, the big crowds and atmosphere make it the best events to race in. I also feel we are well prepared as the team and I have done some extensive testing while in the US and even more in the week leading up to the opening round."
"It starts on Saturday and I hope we have a huge crowd turn out for what looks to be a great championship," Marmont added.
One of the highlights of the Monster Energy Australasian Supercross Championship will be the first ever round under lights in Melbourne.
With a race almost every week - seven rounds held over eight weeks - expect a jam-packed two months of MX action, where the series will finish up in Brisbane on December 4, and the double header in New Zealand should make for interesting viewing.
