Can-Am has unveiled a new addition to the Maverick sports side-by-side family – the X ds with a turbo option.
The turbo model produces a whopping 121hp from the 976cc SOHC liquid-cooled V-twin, and is supplied with an intercooler and high-performance Donaldson air filter.
The turbo option has certainly upped the ante in Can-Am's intriguing side-by-side battle with arch-rival Polaris and its RZR XP 1000. In Australia, the Polaris currently enjoys the upperhand in the Australian Rally Championship side-by-side series, but the Maverick isn't too far behind. A turbo Maverick, however, certainly has the potential to alter the power base once again.
As well as the turbo option, the Maverick X ds also has 54mm throttle bodies, while the CVT transmission features improved airflow for more reliable operation.
The power steering equipped X ds has Fox shock absorbers all-round, with torsional trailing A-arms at the front and Double A-arms at the rear. There's 40.6cm of travel at the rear and 38cm at the front. There are 14-inch aluminium wheels with Maxxis tyres.
The X ds will be available in two and four-seater versions.
The first units of the Maverick will arrive in January 2015.
