100cc class hots up

The 100cc class is shaping up to be the next major battleground for scooter manufacturers in Australia. Honda has a 100cc Lead four-stroke available at just $2500, while Yamaha has countered with a bug-eyed 100 of its own, called the BeeWee (?!), at $3000

The latest sales stats reveal 50cc scooters are being snapped up in big numbers and are now on the radar for the nation's top-selling models. They generally sell for around $2000, but have some limitations when it comes to performance.

A 100cc bike does a similar job more easily, and both Honda and Yamaha will no doubt be hoping the small price premium will make the slightly bigger machines an attractive alternative.

Bikepoint currently has a Lead 100 on fleet and we'll let you know how it goes.
