$10,000 for Sultans of Slide dirt track series

NSW to host three-round event with backing from Indian Motorcycles

Indian Motorcycles knows a bit about dirt track racing and the US company is backing the Sultans of Slide to be the next big thing in Australian racing.

The three-round NSW series has a $10,000 prize pool spread across junior and senior classes.

Indian Motorcycles will use the contest to show off its new FTR 1200 machine, which is being promoted under the slogan “born on the dirt, built for the streets”. The bike is derived from the FTR 750 racer Jarred Mees rode to victory in the 2017 and 2018 AMA Flat Track Championships.

Motorcycling NSW chief executive Dave Cooke says the series is already generating buzz.
“The series is already beginning to gain some momentum as riders are finally seeing the details that I'm sure they've already heard rumours about,” Cook notes.

“We're trying a lot of new and exciting initiatives within Sultans of Slide, and it's great to see companies like Indian Motorcycle recognising that the spotlight will be on the sport".

Indian Motorcycles spokesman Tom Mendey says the series aligns with the company’s history of flat track racing

“With Sultans of Slide adapting their regulations to align more to the standards of the AMA Flat Track series, it was a great opportunity for us to support the sport here in Australia and get the FTR 1200 in front of passionate motorcyclists," Mendey says.

Junior classes include 50cc division two, 65cc, 85cc two-stroke and 150cc four-strokes, and Junior Lites for 150cc two-stroke and 250cc four-stroke machines.

Senior classes include Clubman for motocross frames up to 450cc four-stroke, MX250 for two or four-stroke 250cc bikes, MX450 for 450cc four-strokes and 350cc two-stroke machines and the Open Multi class for multi-cylinder bikes of any capacity.
