1996 KX500 (the all green model). I have owned this bike for about 16 years. I started restoring it well over ten years ago. I have many other bikes, or "projects" on the go. The idea to become a purple kx came from looking for an oversize tank for longer distance trail riding. I came across a purple 10L Mahier tank in America and kept buying all the purple plastics for it l could find to complete it as a purple KX500. It sat in boxes for ten years while l collected parts for it and slowly rebuilt the engine including getting the bore Nicosilled. The bore was not previously dammaged but I got it done anyway. It comes with X2 FMF spare pipes, new Boysen reeds, new con rod still in box. The other old plastics etc l am keeping for other projects. The restoration is incomplete. I have not replaced the front brake, the rims are original and not shiney like the rest of the bike and the clutch has not been replaced but is working fine. It has new linkage bearings, fork seals etc. Geoffrey Eastwood Engineering rebuilt the motor for me as well as fitting a decompression valve. After finally putting it back together, it started 2nd kick. But it would not rev up and sounded very chocked. The problem was I had not removed an imported American ratnest from the OEM expansion pipe l found on-line over 10 years ago. It also has a ISDE Turbine Core muffler. Since rebuilding it l have only ridden it once. I took it to a Vinduro in Collie. I did some marking out with it
the day before the Vinduro and it started and ran very well. I am selling it because it's more bike than l can use. It hurts my broken knee starting it and I can not justify having it doing nothing for any longer.
