When sourcing a donor bike for my custom build, usually buying an already modified and unfinished project sight unseen isn’t the recommended procedure, so I took the time and started off with a sound 1992 Honda Dominator NX 650. Then I quickly put it in the very safe hands to Damian from Yuri Mechanics here in Toowoomba. If you know, then you know.
I had the vison, and Damian had the know how. Getting the overall stance right was the first port of call. Once it was cleaned up of all unnecessary items, brackets and tabs were welded on for the rear guard and custom made battery box under the seat the 'clean' up the look.
There are going to be to many listing components of how custom this bike truly is. But some of the biggys are
- complete engine rebuild with all new gaskets
- Main frame cut and reduced
- All new electrics
- New fuses and relays
- LED brake and running lights
- Under seat, frame mounted, folded aluminium battery and electrical box.
- Custom (hand) rolled front and rear guards
- Hand stitched seat
- Powder coated wheels and rims
- Wrapped headers
- And because I was always loosing my beer opener, there was cut fabricated into the frame
Its been a true pleasure to have witnessed the idea in my head into reality, but its now time to hand over the grips to someone who will love her just as much as I do.
