I bought the bike in non running order in 2019 from a man in Wagga NSW. It had been in his shed undisturbed for 19 years. It had no rust at all anywhere. Over the following 4 years I restored this magnificent motorcycle from the ground up. Completely stripped and dismanteled, the frame was powdercoated, as were the front and rear hubs, and everything was either cleaned and refurbished, or replaced. It has matching VIN and engine numbers.
Here is a list of some ofthe things that were done:
New control cables for everything
Cam chain and tensioner with masterlink for easy removal and crank case bearings.
Gearbox bearings
Rebuilt Gearbox
Tall Siebenrock 5th gear
Overhauled Gear selector
Crankshaft bearings and big end shells and bolts
New push rod seals, cylider gaskets, decoked cylinders and valves.
Piston rings.
New Fuel filters, hoses
New Sachs Clutch plate, rear main seal and rear crank shaft bolts and thrust washers
Endurolast high output alternator and voltage regulator
New Battery cables
New Starter, headlight and turn signal relays
Endurolast starter motor
Spark plug cables
Lighting and electrical overhaul.
All new rubber seals everywhere and anywhere present
Air filter and oil filter + spares
Reconditioned fuel petcocks
Wedgetail electronic ignition with redundancy and 1.5Ohm coil
Wheel bearings
Stainless steel spokes and Avon Roadrider tyres
Reconditioned front shocks with new progressive springs
New YSS Bravo rear shocks
Rear brake shoes and cables
Overhauled front ATE brake caliper, new steel braided hose and lower metal tube. New brake pads and new perforated brake disc.
Overhauled under tank master cylinder with Silicone brake fluid and NO LEAKS (Silicone is perfectly OK for this system, and should it leak...which it won't, it wont corrode the frame)
New Steering bearings
Refurbished and working side and centre stands
New and working steering lock
Swing arm bearings
Overhauled final drive
Overhauled carbs
Converted the single lever choke going to both carbs into single chokes at each carb, because the single lever twin cables were biding. Not original, but functional and I have the parts to reverse it.
Newly painted tank, mud guards and side covers. The tank had no rust but was internally trated anyway with phosphoric acid. Externally, it was stripped down to metal, minor dents repaired, and sprayed with 2 coats primer, 2 coats basecoat, and 3 coats of clear coat and pin striping to restote the "Havana Gold" original colour scheme. However, during the painting process I made some tini scratches in the primer near the fuel lid and didn't notice them until painting was finished. They are tiny and won't polish off because they were in the primer, but they were so small that, although I was annoyed with myself, they are hardly noticeable, so I lived with them. Apart from this, the paintwork is beautiful...in my opinion.
The list is much longer than this, as I replaced or refurbished every nut and bolt and washer, so to speak.
It has no leaks anywhere.
Everything was done by myself, a motor enthusiast with many bikes rebuilt over the years, without skimping on anything. As I was rebuilding, I checked everything against specs in manual, and what wasn't up to spec I replaced. I even purchased all the special tools needed from Cycle Works in the USA, without which, it is very difficult to undertake this type of bare knuckles restoration.
I have receipts for everything I purchased.
I have ridden this bike for the last 2 years and it is a dream to ride. Everything works, and it will need nothing major for a very long time. The sale is regretful, because having never ridden this type of bike before this one, I was blown away by how comfortable, stable, and responsive this bike is to ride. However, necessity calls. I have another larger project that needs funding, and so I must regretfully sell this rare and excellent motorcycle.
Any inspection welcome. Negotiations by means of phone or email without inspection are not.
